Data collected by the National Retail Federation (NRF) has found that pumpkin costumes are the most popular for pets across the U.S., with an estimated 11 percent of pets whose owners dress them in Halloween costumes donning them in pumpkin attire.
It's a trend that many pet owners embrace: According to national survey results released last year by PetSmart, 76 percent of adult American pet owners said they planned to put their pets in costumes, with 30 percent saying they intended to have their pets dress up more than once for the holiday.
Americans spend $700 million annually on costumes for their pets, the Retail Federation said. The most popular pet costumes include a pumpkin, a hot dog, a bat, a bumblebee, and a spider, though Pearl proved some of the trendiest costumes for people translate to the animal kingdom.
